Looking after your slate tableware

Looking after your slate tableware

Here's a little quide to looking after your slate tableware.

During Use

Slate is a hard-wearing material and will handle most things, however knives and other sharp utensils will scratch the surface.

After Use

After use, wipe down with a damp cloth. Avoid holding your mat under a tap, immersing in water or putting in the dishwasher.

Care and Maintenance

To maintain the look of the slate, rub a little olive oil or food-safe oil into the surface and leave to dry. This restores the dry areas (light grey spots) and hides some of the deeper scratches.

Storage

If your mats are stacked for extended periods, you may notice that the foam backings show indentations from the mat below, this is normal and will fade over time.

Remember when storing that mats are heavy at over 1kg per mat. Please ensure your storage location can take the weight of multiple pieces.
